Welcome to the annual “Best of MightWar” post.

We are going into the archives to rediscover the posts that resonated with us this past year.

It’s a chance for you to catch up on something you might have missed.

Or if you’re new to the site, it provides a little taste of what you might bump into whilst wandering around here.

So without further ado, here are some of the best MightWar posts from 2014 – based on your preferences and mine.

As was done last year, they’re divided into category so that you can zero in on the posts that interest you the most. Enjoy!

Poetry Posts

I continue to record my thoughts and experiences; and find those who cross my path provide excellent inspiration for writing.

Rapture
A love song to Auburn, my wife. The woman who messed up what I thought I knew about myself; and made me like it.

Mute
The Weekly Writing Challenge told us to “take the theme of silence and explore it in your own way”. This was what I came up with.

Imagined Spaces
A piece written for all the children I have loved and raised; and those I may yet birth and raise.
And in answer to the motherhood question that haunts me from time to time.

Creative Writing Posts

The Weekly Writing Challenges this year really got me thinking and writing.

Close Encounters: Part 1
The challenge was simple: “write a post that will leave readers waiting for more”. I couldn’t resist.

Especially when bonus points were also available for anyone who managed to work Sylvester Stallone into their post. Bring it on!

Endure. Breathe. (Repeat)
A moment of reflection following three years of chronic illness.

Photography Posts

It’s been a blast continuing with the Weekly Photo Challenge. Learning more about what makes an image impactful, getting feedback from you guys about my images and seeing them through another’s eyes has gone a long way to improving my photography skills.

I even made my first triptych!

Random Musings

Those of you who are familiar with this site are aware of just how random (read ‘freakish’) my mind can be. And this past year seems to be no different.

Pot Pourri

“You know how there are some smells that you would recognise from 20 paces?

Well marijuana is one of those smells for me.”

A little discourse on smells that you associate with a particular place/destination. Honest, guv’nah.

… The First Step

“Dear Mum & Daddi,

As I age, I gain a clearer perception of you as people; a better understanding of the seriousness with which you undertook your role as parents; and a greater appreciation for the efforts you put into raising your children.”

I am ever thankful for the foundation that my parents built for their children. And when I came to fully understand it’s power and worth, I had to sing about it.

Sex and the Wheelchair

“I want to fuck my wife.

Yep, I said it. I want to fuck my wife.

In fact, I’d prefer to be doing that rather than writing this post.

But unfortunately, no can do”

It was simple really: I wrote a post discussing some of my thoughts on maintaining sexual relationships in times of disability and/or chronic illness.

So imagine my surprise when it became the most read post on the site … and then became Freshly Pressed!!!!

The Comments section led to some interesting, eye-opening and often hilarious discussion. I could apologise, but it wouldn’t mean much as I really am that shameless all the time.

Hungry For More?

On the last Friday of every month, the re•call series introduces you to some of the older posts on the site.

Alternatively, you can search through the Last 30 Blog Posts, Categories and Monthly Archives in the Repository.
